Integration hubs in South America. The Iniciativa para la Integración de la Infraestructura Regional Suramericana (IIRSA) is probably the most ambitious infrastructure investment in the continent that has ever existed. It is a proposal for integration and development launched by the governments of the region in Brasilia in 2000. The initiative proposes the construction of 10 axes of major infrastructure works including mega-highways, dams, pipelines and waterways across the length and breadth of South America. Map 2006.
