Valencia (in Valencian and officially València), AFI: is a municipality and a city of Spain, capital of the homonymous province and of the Valencian Community. Previously, Valencia was also capital of the extinct region of the Huerta de Valencia, region which in 1989 disintegrated to form the comarcas of the Huerta Norte, Huerta Sur, Huerta Oeste and Valencia city, thus being constituted as the only city-comarca of the Valencian Community.
With a population of 790 201 inhabitants (INE, 2016), which amounts to 1 550 885 inhabitants if we include its conurbation, it is the third most populous city and metropolitan area of Spain, behind Madrid and Barcelona.
